Accessing files on FTP server via Word 2010? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I want to use Word 2010 to create web pages and save them to my server.  I successfully used Map Network Drive and can copy/paste to/from the server within Explorer.

But in Word 2010, when I try to open a file on the server I get the message:

    "Could not open 'ftp://ftp.xxxxx.com/public_html/whatsnew.htm'."

I've tried both using the full path name (e.g. ftp://ftp.xxxxx.com/public_html/whatsnew.htm) as the File Name and selecting the file in the Open dialog.

I was able to save a new file once using the full path name, but all other attempts produce messages:

"Cannot save 'test.htm'.  The folder is marked as 'Read Only'." and "Word did not save the document."

    I'm on Windows 7.

    Help!
