Accessing files on FTP server via Word 2010? RRS feed

    I want to use Word 2010 to create web pages and save them to my server.  I successfully used Map Network Drive and can copy/paste to/from the server within Explorer. 

    But in Word 2010, when I try to open a file on the server I get the message:

    "Could not open 'ftp://ftp.xxxxx.com/public_html/whatsnew.htm'."

    I've tried both using the full path name (e.g. ftp://ftp.xxxxx.com/public_html/whatsnew.htm) as the File Name and selecting the file in the Open dialog.

    I was able to save a new file once using the full path name, but all other attempts produce messages:

    "Cannot save 'test.htm'.  The folder is marked as 'Read Only'." and "Word did not save the document."

    I'm on Windows 7.

    Help!

    Hi,

    Please try to access the FTP site and Open/save filen, follow these steps:

    - Open

    1.On the File tab, click Open.
    2.In the Open dialog box, scroll down the list on the left. Click the FTP site
    you added.
    3.Navigate to the file you want to open, select it, and click Open to begin working with
    the file.

    - Save

    1.  On the File tab, click Save As.
    2.  In the Save As dialog box, click the name of the FTP site you added. (Double-click any subfolders you want to access as well.)
    3.  In the File Name box, type a name for the file (or retain the current name) then click
    Save.
