Hyper-V Server 2016 limitations

    Question

  • Hi,

Are there any limitation for Hyper-V Server 2016 (I mean free version, not Windows Server 2016) ?

By limitation I mean numer of vCPU per VM, max RAM per VM, can it be connected to System Center , etc...

    Many thanks for information!

  • Hi,

In addition to what Luk said, I understand you'll get no support from Microsoft for the free hypervisor.  You'll just need to rely on forums, etc.  I don't think there are any vCPU, RAM, etc. limitations as such though.

  • Hi Nedim,

Thanks for information. What about the update ? Let say, that today I will create my VMs on free hyper-v server. In a year or so, I want to host these VMs on Windows Server 2016, with System Center. Will there be any problems with migration to new infrastructure ,  or can I just join those hosts to System Center or create clusters together with free versions and migrate my VMs to new hosts ?

    Thanks!

  • But VMM is not free, if you use VMM to manage your hosts you have to pay a system center license for each host :)
