Windows Photo Viewer shows images in bad quality RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

The previous post on Photo Viewer reminded me of a question from our Marketing Team the other day...

Photo Viewer opens images (here I am talking about jpegs, not tested many others) in poor quality. You can see this by opening, for example, a .jpg photograph and selecting Open -> Paint, or Picture Manager or whatever image editor you have, and comparing the 2 images. The overall resolution and/or colour depth is dropped in Photo Viewer considerably.

My question is, is there a way to make Photo Viewer show the full image quality?

    Thanks,

    Rob

P.S. It appears to do this for most if not all image formats

  • 3 sentences:

Not on our corporate allowed list
We have our own full-blown corporate graphics software that could be used to directly open but...
...we want the built-in Windows one to work :)

  • Understood.  :)  An admirable quest.

Might be worth campaigning to get IrfanView allowed.  It's that good.

  • Thank you for the suggestions, but I was hoping to get someone from Microsoft to explain why their built-in previewer is such poor quality and/or (wishing here) for a registry setting to make it show the correct, glorious full quality :)

    I miss my Amiga...

  • I had the same problem.  This resolved the problem for me:
