There won't be any issues. It would work normally.

  • As Leo indicates, the engineers designed CSV for this to work seamlessly. The only thing that you might see is a little bit of extra 're-directed' IO. A VM can read and write to a virtual hard disk that is located on a CSV owned by another node of the cluster. That was a primary design criteria. The VM reading and writing to the virtual hard disk is reading/writing to a the file that defines the VHD.  However, if the VHD is a dynamically expanding VHD, whenever the VHD needs to extended, or increased in size, the IO required to handle the file extension is handled by the node that owns the CSV. Actions such as file extension, file creation, and directory creation are known as 'meta-data updates'.  These are actions that can be handled only by the owning node.  If they happen within the VHD, these are handled by the OS of the VM.  But when they happen at the CSV level, they are handled by the owning node.  Fortunately, these operations tend not to happen that frequently in a well-designed system, so the overhead is minimal on the owning node.
