Enabling printer PIN for network printers RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have a requirement to make it mandatory for all the network printer users to enter PIN before they print a document. Is there any way to do it.

That is in simple way make a printing job more secured for an end user. Everytime he tries to print the page/doc he gets a prompt to set the PIN.

Any script, command or Group Police will be help.

    Thanks in advance.

  • you are asking about automating a custom program which has some sort of passcode mechanism.

No - there is no standard ways to do this.  You will need to call the vendor of the program to find out how to automate this if, in fact, it is possible.

This forum is primarily for technicians and admins. It is not a place to ask for custom solutions. If you cannot understand how to go about solving this then you should contact a consultant to help you understand what is happening.

  • Sorry.  Why would you want to undermine your companies requirements.

You can purchase software that will account for print jobs by user.  A user can be set to have a default id or PIN.

This is not  good task for a script.

  • I would contact your printer's manufacturer for assistance. You didn't mention the make/model of printer, so I can't give you any additional guidance.

  • Need to automate these steps :

    1. On the File menu, click Print.
    2. Click Properties, and then click Advanced.
    3. Under Job type, select Secure Print.
    4. It will ask you to type in a four digit code twice.
    5. After you go to the printer, you select the job and then type in the same four digit code.

Is this feasible by anything script or tool or Group Policy
