  • I was finally able to fix this by installing the "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 11".  Not sure why IE11 isn't installing this on its own despite having automatic updates checked.

Here is a link for 64 bit IE on Windows 7, you can find other versions for 32 bit, windows 8, etc

  • Hi,

you can find virtualization solutions at http://modern.ie (so you don't have to downgrade to test something.) Normally developers would use the Emulation tab on the Developer tool to quickly test legacy compatibility of their websites.

From your screen shot I see

You have accidentally  moved iexplore.exe to file to the wrong folder...

see the comments I made on your post to connect. The error occurs because it is looking in c:\Program Files not c:\Program Files\Internet Explorer for the f12DevTools.exe resources.

I would suggest that you restore a backup point and then run windows update to restore your position prior to 'downgrading' to IE8. Uninstalling IE11 to downgrade your IE version is NOT the way to test your web applications. see http://modern.ie

  • Hi nathan_ab,

If you mean the update KB3008923, please uninstall it and check if issue insists, we have threads talking about this update already, see here and here.

From the message of Jonathan Sampson [MSFT] in this thread,

    "

we have a team of engineers investigating the matter right now.

    "

Please temporarily uninstall this update, and wait for the update from Microsoft.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Best regards

How do I uninstall this? I only have IE11 in my installed updates list, there are no separate updates I can remove.

Also, I didn't move my IE executable.  I've reinstalled multiple times and it doesn't work.

  • see what version of f12resources.dll you have installed in your program files\Internet Explorer folder...

mine is 11.0.9600.17489 which was last modified 22/11/2014.... check that administrators have write access for the installer to over-write previous versions.

(note: your screen shot shows that you are addressing the x64 IE binaries)....

check your installation logs... for errors..
