Graphic glitch on startup RRS feed

  • Question

  • On boot, after the animated four window panes combine to form a window I see a graphic artifact (random lines) on the screen for about 2 seconds before the logon screen appears.

I have a RADEON X800 video card with 256MB RAM in my DELL XPS/Dimension XPS Gen 3.

    Processor, 80547, Pentium 4 Prescott DT, 3.4GHZ, 1 MEGB 800FSB, SKT-T

    It worked for me

  • rnell,

There are no Windows 7 drivers from ATI for that model, did you try installing the Windows Vista versions in compatibility mode?

  • If it's working 100% apart from these two seconds, I'd say don't sweat the small stuff in a preview release.

  • The device otherwise appears to working properly. The graphic glitch levaes the impression of a unstable, low quaility product.  There is likely a simple fix.  No I haven't tried to install the Windows Vista versions.

    The driver's properties say
RADEON X800 XT (Microsoft Corp - WDDM),
      Driver Provider: ATI Technologies Inc.
      Driver Date 3/10/2009.,
      Driver Version 8.56.1.13

  • rnell,

Remember that this is a preview build - it's as polished as it can possibly be under the circumstances, and giving the impression of being unstable is much different from not running stably. I would recommend trying to install the Windows Vista drivers, although from what you've posted, it does sound like your current ones should work well enough (and you could always roll back if necessary). Again, in a pre-release candidate, two seconds of graphic corruption isn't much to sweat.
