Equivalent for Collection in FS4SP? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Experts,

I'm working to migrate our ESP 5.3 to FS4SP.

FS4SP's ContentSource is an equivalent for Collection in ESP! Is the statement correct?

    Much Thanks!!

  • From what I've seen, FS4SP still has collections.

New-fastsearchcontencollection, set-fastsearchcontentcollection, and get-fastsearchcontentcollection are used for configuring and managing said collections.

FS4SP, however, does not have 'search profiles', which were essentially filters on the 'collection' field.

    Have a look here: https://searchunleashed.wordpress.com/2011/01/23/content-source-vs-content-collection-in-fs4sp/

-- Esentially, contentsources are exactly that, sources of content. All content sources feed into the default 'sp' collection. Whereas, Content collections are logical groupings of documents in FS4SP, and are the equivalent of collections in ESP.

  • Hello freddie,

I would in most cases agree with your statement that a ContentSource in FS4SP is the same as how you typically use collections in ESP.

However, if you use one of the FAST Specific Connectors (web crawler, database, notes) they do not get a value for ContentSource automatically, and you have to filter on meta.collection unless you create a custom extensibility stage which adds a crawled property which you also map to ContentSources.
