Windows 7 Ultimate x64 "Critical Problem" RRS feed

  • Question

  • Greetings,

I've been getting a pop-up error message more and more frequently as of late: "Windows has encountered a problem and will restart automatically in one minute.  Please save your work now."

This seems to happen when opening previously saved work and when saving work (right click > save image as).  I cannot over-ride the shut-down.  I have already tried various solutions posted about this problem to no avail.

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate version 6.1.7600 build 7600

Processor: Intel Core 2 Extreme CPU x9650@3.00 GHz, 3000Mhz, 4 Core

    RAM: 8 GB

  • Looks like your RAM timing is incorrect.

Make sure the RAM is set to auto in the BIOS

if memtest still is a problem then your MB may need to be replaced

  • please download CPU-Z [1], look in the memory and SPD tab and verify that the current RAM Speed and the Timings match to the values that you see in the SPD tab. If your RAM run at CR (Command Rate) 1T, change the value into 2T in the BIOS.

If it is already on 2 and you get the errors, the RAM is damaged. Test each module its own and replace the faulty RAM module.

  • you get access violations in a critical Windows exe.

This maybe a RAM or HDD issue. So test your RAM with memtest86+ and also run chkdsk C: /r /f to check your HDD for NTFS issues.

  • André,

Running chkcsk C: /r/f showed nothing out of the ordinary, however there were some issues produced with MemTest86+:

The error showed up on the first pass, test #3.  The subsequent 9 passes added some additional errors to the count.

    Your thoughts?

Thanks again in advance...  Your help is much appreciated!
