RRAS VPN Client DHCP 169 RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a RRAS server with single NIC on subnet 10.1.1.0/24

We have 2 DHCP servers with both single NIC on subnet 10.2.2.0/24

On RRAS we configured VPN and on IPV4 tab we selected DHCP (there was not adapter drop down menu).

Next we added a dhcp relay agent with interface 'ethernet01' (or do we need to choose 'internal' ) ?

On dhcp relay agent properties we added 2 dhcp servers 10.2.2.1 and 10.2.2.2

Now VPN client connects successfull but the client gets 169 apipa.

On RRAS server we see request received , replies received and request discarded

Port UDP 67 between RRAS and DHCP is opened.

    What are we missing ?

  • Hi,

Based on my knowledge, we need to two NICs, one external NIC and one internal NIC.

  • Hi Ellen,

A RRAS server can also be a single nic server as far as i know.

Does DHCP Relay Agent not work in a single nic config and is there any documentation on this?

Yes, the DHCP Relay Agent can work in a single NIC config.

And you can refer the following article about more details:
