Help with connecting Win 10 1809 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi I have two Win 10 pro with the latest version installed (1809) and I can't get them to connect to my server 2012r2 essentials box. I have tried with http and https://servername/connect and by https://ip/connect. I get 404 errors with the page cannot be found. I have tried other computers that have connected and they can still get to the connection software download page (they are Windows 7 boxes). Any help would be greatly appreciated, TIA

    Dan

  • Hi,

On Windows 10, open TCP/IP properties, please manually type WSE IP address as your preferred DNS server. Save the change and check the result.

Also, if possible, try to disable IPv6 on Windows 10 temporarily to check the result.

If problem persists, please open CMD on Windows 10, try to ping WSE IP address to check the network connectivity.

  • Are you talking about Windows Server 2012 Essentials (equivalent of SBS) or Windows Server 2012 Standard, as if you're talking about a copy of Standard edition then the http://<servername>/connect/ domain join isn't available (though I believe it is now an installable role in 2012 R2 Standard), and that would be why it isn't working.

If that's the case then to join the machine to a domain you need to do so via the method described here http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/connect-computer-domain#1TC=windows-7 eg via Computer properties.

  • Hello Eve. I have the same problem as Dan but I have 2016 essentials server. I added the server ip address to the DNS settings and successfully pinged the server from the new workstation. Still no luck connecting. I am using servername/connect in the browser. I get to the part where I should connect and I get "cannot connect this computer to the network."

Can you help, please. If I get the computer connected I will "mark as answer."

  • Nancy,

Couple of possible fixes.  I'm using Win 10 Pro 1809. My server is Windows 2012

    1. At the Windows 10, search for "Windows Features", find and tick "SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support"

    Try to connect again.

    2.  Manually add to domain through offline registration.

In case the link gets removed, search Youtube for Offline Domain Join, this video is made by 'Must be Noob'.

    Hope that helps!
