.NET runtime 2.0 error

For about a month now one of our applications is logging a “.NET runtime 2.0 error”, event id 1000 which is causing our application to fail. Tried deleting and reinstalling my .NET environment, didn’t help. Also turned off auto update because I suspected an autoupdate caused the problem. Even though I have autoupdate turned off Windows XP Pro SP3 still uploaded updates.

Clean your existing .net versions using .net framwork clean up utility (if any)

and download and install latest standalone installer.. .net framework 4 and install it
