SharePoint wss 3 upgrade RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I posted a similar question on the general forum and it was deleted.  My only guess as to why is because it was possibly supposed to go here.  A little frustrating.

Anyway,  we have currently have sharepoint wss 3 running with only a few sites that are used with numerous doc libraries.  We are building new hardware for the new SharePoint 2010 foundation to reside on.  We want to migrate our existing sharepoint wss 3 over to sharepoint 2010.

I am looking for any gotchyas people ran into when doing something similar or things that I should always do that maybe aren't clear?

My high level plan is the following:

    1.  install and setup sharepoint foundation 2010 creating a new web application.

    2.  set wss 3 dbase to readonly and back it up and move to new box

    3.  use powershell to attach dbase to web application and upgrade.

    Any pointers would be appreciated.

    Thanks.
