  • Yes , I check already

We have 3 KMS host in the DNS

    abc1004.abc.local internet address = xxx.xxx.xxx.139   -  OLD  KMS
    abc1092.abc.local internet address = xxx.xxx.xxx.138   -Active
    abc1032.abc.local internet address = xxx.xxx.xxx.250  - Active

    2 is active

1 is old KMS host but still the entry in the DNS  - The OS is windows 2008 only

I run the command  “cscript %windir%\system32\slmgr.vbs /cdns"” is NOT working

The OS is not supported by the above command " windows 2008 only" without R2

Can you please advise how to removed the old KMS with the above version of OS

Do you want to "demote" the OLD KMS so that it is no longer a KMSHost? But still have it running as a KMSClient? If so, change the product key in that machine to be a KMSClient product key for WS2008, then, manually delete the _vlmcs._tcp record for that OLD KMS.

Don [doesn't work for MSFT, and they're probably glad about that ;]

  • Is your KMS server actually available?

Yoy might want to first check that. If you have KMS servers on your domain you can usually find them by opening a Command Prompt and typing the following:

    nslookup -type=srv _vlmcs._tcp.<YourDomainNameGoesHere>
