Recovery Point creation failed for Windows Server 2012 from DPM 2012 R2 UR10 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Scenerio:

Source: Windows Server 2012 (Hyper-V VM) ;C drive (System) D drive (data, bitlocker enabled, VSS enabled)

DPM cannot create Recovery Point (RP) if bitlocker drive is unlocked. The only way to create RP is either shutdown the VM or bitlocker locked. I prefer to keep the VM up, thus, I used to lock the bitlocker drive when i want to create recovery point.

However, Volume Shadow Copies (VSS) will lose whenever i want to create a RP by DPM.

An error was found from event log, volsnap eventid:16.

Is there any method to create RP without locking the data drive or avoiding the VSS lost?

  • FYR, Window Server 2012 R2 does not have this issue.

After bitlocker, dpm can still create recovery point (no need to bitlocker locked).

But again if creating RP when the drive is bitlocker locked, VSS will lost.
