  • Hi,

Which version of Microsoft Outlook are you using?

By Outlook data file, do you mean a PST file or an OST file?

Are you looking at the correct Outlook data file? In theory, Outlook data file won't automatically move itself to another folder. By default, Outlook Data Files (.pst) created by using Outlook 2013 or Outlook 2016 are saved on your computer in the Documents\Outlook Files folder, while .OST files are saved in the drive:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook.

    >>now outlook apparently cannot find it when I try to open outlook mail.

Is there any error message when you try to open Outlook mails? Where are the mails stored? In an attached PST file or in the default data file?

    Regards,
    Steve Fan
