Windows Updates + netsh DHCP export RRS feed

  • Question

  • Morning All,

We have a scheduled task that runs an export on our central DHCP server..(Server 2003 fully patched as of 29/6/12)

    It uses the netsh command

netsh dhcp server \\dhcp-02 export \\dhcp-04\dhcp_bu$\dhcpdb_dhcp-02 all

netsh dhcp server \\dhcp-02 export \\dhcp-02\dhcp_bu$\dhcpdb_dhcp-02 all

It has worked fine for years since its implementation.

We performed our patching on Friday night and since then netsh.exe is crashing during the export:

    Application Error

Faulting application netsh.exe, version 5.2.3790.3959, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.2.3790.4937, fault address 0x0004cd12.

The application, C:\WINDOWS\system32\netsh.exe, generated an application error The error occurred on 07/04/2012 @ 01:15:18.916 The exception generated was c0000005 at address 7C84CD12 (ntdll!RtlIpv4StringToAddressExW)

This happens after the DHCP service is stopped, we are also using a short lease time so the following day users are unable to contact the DHCP server.

I am trying to replicate the fault in the test lab but for the time being have disabled the task. Does anyone have some knowledge about netsh that can shed any light?

  • Hi,

    Thank you for the post.

Please install KB950574 and KB958939 to update Dhcpssvc.dll and Dhcpsnap.dll file version.
Moreover, try to add command "net stop dhcpserver & net start dhcpserver" ahead of netsh command in your task.

If there are more inquiries on this issue, please feel free to let us know.
