SharePoint Display name in upper right hand corner

    Question

  • In the SharePoint 2013 environment after you have signed in. There is your display name in the upper right hand corner that is attached to AD. What is this property pooling from? It looks like the First Name and Last Name from AD. Is there anyway to change this to Display name instead?

We have a user who's last name is not displayed right because another letter is not capitalized. The Display Name in user profile services is right, but the last name is not correct and when we correct it in AD. The next time we get an upload from human resources the name changes.

  • Hi swimmerbhs,

The name in upper right hand corner comes the “Name” in User Information list (http://siteurl/_layouts/15/people.aspx?MembershipGroupId=0). And the “Name” in the User Information list comes from the “Name” in the User Profiles.

The “Name” property in the User Profile Service Application (also known as Preferred Name) is mapped to a Synchronization Connection’s “Display Name” attribute.

After Changing Display Name in Active Directory, we need to start full profile synchronization to sync values from Active Directory to User Profiles.

Then, run the following timer job to synchronize the User Profile user Data with user Information List.

    • User Profile to SharePoint Full Synchronization
    • User Profile to SharePoint Quick Synchronization

After that, the name in upper right hand corner will change.

    Best regards,
