Installation without access to the internet RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm attempting to work through A Guide to Claims-Based Identity and Access Control (2nd Edition).  In the Inside the Implementation section, it links to the labs on codeplex.  You download the labs, and run the dependency checker, and it tells me I need the 'Windows Azure Tools for VS'.  So I go to the download page, and what it gives me is a web platform installer, which of course requires an internet connection, which I don't have on the servers in our development domain (dang security!).

So I try to install the individual components -

    • Windows Azure Tools for Microsoft Visual Studio*
    • Windows Azure SDK
    • Visual Web Developer 2010, if you do not have Visual Studio 2010
    • ASP.Net MVC3
    • Windows Azure AppFabric SDK
    • Required IIS feature settings
    • Required hot fixes

I have VS 2010 ultimate.  I've installed the Windows Azure SDK and the Windows Azure AppFabric SDK. It appears that ASP.Net MVC3 is installed (I can create C# web projects using the MVC3 template). So, my list should look like this now:

    • Windows Azure Tools for Microsoft Visual Studio*
    • Required IIS feature settings
    • Required hot fixes

I'm not convinced I have the tools for VS installed, even though I read in some Azure SDK doc that it does include the VS extensions.

So, how do I complete this mess?  And, on a philosophical note, why is this so darn hard?

    Thanks.
