  • Hello, I'm getting an error when trying to protect a new share.  The share is very large and DPM throws the following alert when trying to create the initial replica:

    DPM is backing up other shares on this server just fine.  I've verified that there's no permissions issue and that I can access this path/server from the DPM server.

    Any help is much appreciated!

  • Hi,

    OK, you are most likely running out of non-paged pool memory due to the large size of the protected volume and running on a 32 bit operating system.

    You can try this to see if it helps:

    Add/Modify the registry settings below to trim the Paged Pool usage of the server - x86-based systems only

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management]
    "PoolUsageMaximum"=dword:0x0000001E
    "PagedPoolSize"=dword:0x0d800000

    Note Setting the PagedPoolSize value to 0xFFFFFFFF allocates the maximum paged pool to the computer.

  • Hi Mike,

    Thanks for the help I'm going to try that out but I just want to make sure I understand you correctly.  My DPM server is running Win2k8 Standard x64 but the file server I'm backing up is Windows Storage Server 2k3 x86.

    So it's possible that the storage server is running out of non-paged pool memory and I need to edit the registry on the storage server right?

    Thanks again for your help!

  • Yes, the registry settings suggestion was for Protected Server (Storage Server 2k3 x86).

    You also need to restart the server after changing the settings.

  • Thanks Mike and Arun,

    This fix worked as suggested.  After the server reboot I just kicked off a consistency check in DPM and it took a few hours but came back successfully!!!

    We've been working on a solution to this issue for months now, I can't thank you enough.
