XP final and final again RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I've installed XP SP3 on 29.04. (version without before RMS update). Now as I can see there is another final verzion (since 06.05.). Do I need to uninstall currently SP3 and install a new one or should leave currently SP3 and wait for new updates…?

  • 2600 is not the service pack build number - 2600 is common to all versions and service packs of XP.  To check the build number of the Service Pack you have installed, run the command "msinfo32" and look at the line:

Hardware Abstraction Layer Version = "5.1.2600.xxxx"

where xxxx is the service pack build number.  If you have xxxx=5512, then you have the latest version of SP3.

  • If you got the released version of XPSP3 from MSDN/TN+, Windows Update or the Microsoft Download Center, you should have the final version and shouldn't need to get it again. Build number is 5512; you can check that by running winver (go to start menu - click run - type winver - enter).

  • Hi,

XP with SP3 installed says on winver as "build 2600".

So, original question once again - Do I need to uninstall currently SP3 (published on April, before RMS bug found) and install a new one or should leave currently SP3 and wait for new updates…?
