DPM Backup Fails on Hyper-V VM Running Azure AD Connect RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've installed DPM 2012 R2 agent (version 4.2.1589.0) on single Hyper-V host (Server 2012 R2) and configured DPM protection group to include the Hyper-V guest OSes (all Server 2012 R2). Backups run fine except for one VM. Replica creation, consistency check, and recovery point jobs all fail with this error:

In the event viewer of the VM, I get multiple "SQLVDI" error messages when DPM attempts to back up:

    Along with "vmicvss" errors:

The only SQL instance running on the VM is one that was installed along with Azure AD Connect, so I assume that is where the problem lies.

A look at vss writers shows SqlServerWriter is stable with no errors:

Ive restarted the VM and the DPM servers, but no change. Thoughts?

  • Never mind, followed the steps here and got it working (repair the Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express LocalDB).
