Suspend SCCM task sequence RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am planning to give the offline task sequence ISO to the hardware vendor to install the OS.In between the task sequence i am planning to add suspend task sequence command so all activities which are network independent can be done from their side.Once the machine is shipped to office field engineer can resume the task sequence which covers the network dependent actions.

I know in MDT there is a option to suspend the task sequence.Administrator can login and click on resume icon in the desktop.

But how this can be achieved in SCCM 2012 since SCCM uses System context to install the OS ? can we achieve through any scripts ?

  • Use the OEM scenario in SCCM, it was built for this purpose.

  • Dell has a guide that uses variables in the task sequence - http://en.community.dell.com/dell-groups/dtcmedia/m/mediagallery/20442112/download

This thread also talks about variables in the TS - https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/f6778149-765e-461f-b936-38cc49084496/creating-task-sequence-media-for-prestaging-environemnts?forum=mdt

  • Hi,

Unfortunately, there are no such function now.

To start a TS at the location of the step that failed, it was part of the SCCM Hackathon at MMS 2016 in Minnesota where it was demoed in a dev environment so maybe it will reach the product one day, it is very high on user-voice as well.

  • There's no need for this function. Johan has pointed out the correct answer and path above as using a pause is not the correct method of addressing the challenge at all.

  • Hi I know I am a little late on this post but I'm working on this exact same scenario. I'm not clear on what you mean by "Use the OEM scenario in SCCM"? Can you elaborate or give me a couple of links??

    Thanks!!
