MDT 2013 need am Image RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am new in MDT. I want to distribute windows 8.1 with MDT 2013 and WDS. Is it necessary to create an sysprep Image or can I take the installation files from DVD and combine this with drivers and so on....?

    The problem i have:

I create an Lite Touch wim and imported the file into wds (Boot Images).

But the install process took a long time (more then two and a half hour).

It is necessary to create an image?

  • Katha,

I would suggest to you, you get yourself familiar with the concept of MDT.

I have added a picture for you that should help you understand:

The blue lane happens on a virtual machine, there you create your so called "reference" image, which is a standard Windows 8.1 installation, with perhaps depending on your requirements additional software like visual C++ components, .NET framework and Office 2013 and Windows and Office updates.

This reference image then get's captured into a so called WIM file. This WIM file can then be imported again in MDT as a custom image file for use at the green lane, where you actually deploy the image to physical hardware.

Drivers can be managed separately from the operating system. There is allot of information written on the internet about driver management in MDT. So Google it :)

Hope this clarify's the concept of MDT for you.
