Hyper V 2012 R2 with multiple Guest OS RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • I planned to have 3 Guest OS (production server) on Microsoft HyperV 2012 R2 (Bare Metal Server)

All above 3 Guest OS would be NATed in Firewal for Public Access.

These Servers would be on Windows 2008 R2

And the Guest OS vhdx is on External USB V3 Drive connected to HOST or Guest OS is on NAS box.

What is your opinion about this. Will this scenario possible in LIVE?

  • A USB device is not a recommended storage interface for production VMs.  You'll have issues getting Hyper-V to accept removable storage, as it's not allowed by default.

You should use a more robust storage option, if your NAS can do SMB3 or iSCSI that would be a better solution, or just use local HDDs for storage.
