    Question

  • Hello -

We have a Word document that three users were editing together in a Skype meeting.   It wasn't simultaneous editing, rather the meeting coordinator handed desktop control to each of the other in Skype and they edited it that way.  One user did try to edit at the same time from his desktop, but did not see in his browser what was being changed by everyone in Skype, but it was the same copy since in Skype they could see the 'User1 is now editing the document' popup message.  This user then exited because it wasn't working and they continued to edit the document.   When we went back to the document, we noticed that none of the changes were saved. There's no version in the version history and nothing in the Recycle Bin.    Any ideas what could have happened or where else we can investigate?   I will be getting a date/time to see if I can check the ULS logs for anything else.

    thanks

  • Hi XRS,

Whether you use Office Web App in SharePoint 2013 environment?

If so, yes, the Auto-Save feature is for Word web app is not available in SharePoint 2013, It's only available for Excel and PowerPoint now.

In SharePoint 2016, we need to configure Office Online server instead. When the word open online, the document can be automatically saved.

  • The only thing I think that could have happened is that the document was being modified in the browser and the save button was not hit anytime during the update.   In Word Web App, there is no auto-save feature like in the client.   Is this feature available in SharePoint 2016?
