Program Management in Project Server/PWA 2010 RRS feed

  • Question

  • We're using Project Server 2010, Project Web App (PWA), and MS Project as well as the associated SharePoint sites. We have created a SharePoint site for our Program with subsites for each of the projects that roll up to it. I want to replace the existing Project Sites (SharePoint) with the newly created subsite and receive this error message, "The specified site not a child of the default site collection."

Process used to edit Site Address

The Edit Site Address setting allows you to edit the destination URL for a project site to point to a new site address.  Changing the site address information breaks the existing link between the project and the existing Project Site.  You can then enter the information to the new Project Site.

Note   Before changing the Project Site URL for a project, be sure to provision a new Project Site with a new site template.

u To edit a site address for a Project site:

    1. On the Server Settings page, in the Operational Policies section, click Project Sites.
    2. From the Project Name list, select a project for which you want to edit the Project site information.
    3. Click Edit Site Address.

    1. The Edit Site Address dialog box appears.

    1. Type a new SharePoint site URL will be selected by default.  Change the project site URL information to the new URL.
    2. Click Test URL to verify if the new project site URL can be opened. (Error Message HTTP 400 Bad Request)
    3. Bypass the test of the new URL by not testing and just click OK.  The project site URL for the project you selected in step 2 will be changed to the new URL. Error Message: "The specified site not a child of the default site collection."

Note: I can paste the URL in internet explorer and it takes me directly to the SharePoint site. (Its not the link)

    Thanks for your guidance!

  • iLindyBella,

Just as the message says, are these sites part of the PWA site collection?

  • Yes, they're in the PWA site collection.

  • Maybe these sites made not from Project Site template. You should create new sites only as Project Site, others templates will not work

  • We re-created the sites from the template vs. sub-sites and resolved the issue. Sure wish there would have been a way to add sub-sites to the projects.

    Thanks for the suggestions!
