WSUS update KB name found but URL points to a file that is not there RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm running WSUS in Server 2019 and testing with a couple of identical clients.  The clients keep finding KB updates but can't download them.  I found the the file URL is wrong.  The file that is referenced is not there.  Why are there KB numbers and not actual file for them?  Is there a way to removed orphaned WSUS KB references with not file?  Thanks Allan

All replies

    1. Open the WSUS MMC console and connect to your server
    2. Expand Update Services => Server Name => Updates
    3. Right-click All Updates and select Search

How to remove a Windows update

    4. Enter the kb number of the update you would like to remove and press Find Now

    5. Right-click the update and select Approve, Status Report is also useful to see how many computers still have the update installed

  • Hi Allan,

I have some doubts about your description, please allow me to ask some questions:

    1. Is WSUS currently configured as "Do not store update files locally"?

    2. If question 1 is true, is the client computer able to access the Internet normally, and make sure that the sites mentioned in the following article are not blocked by any corporate network firewall: "Connection from the WSUS server to the Internet".

    3. If all of the above conditions are met or not met, please consider providing the KB number of the file you are unable to find for further research.

Reply back with the results would be happy to help.

    Regards,
    Yic
