SCCM 2007 Secondary to SCCM 2012 DP RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

we need to upgrade/reassign the SCCM 2007 Secondary site as SCCM 2012 DP or uninstall SCCM 2007 secondary manually & configure as new SCCM 2012.

we have installed following components as part of SCCM 2007 secondary site.

    BITS

    WSUS

    WebDAV

    WDS(Configuration)

we don't need these components for SCCM 2012 DP. as we can keep this windows features or we need to remove manually.

    TIA

  • Sorry, what's the question here? Do you *need* to remove these component? No. ConfigMgr doesn't care if they are installed or not. *Should* you remove them? Sure, as it doesn't really make sense to keep them. *How* do you remove them? Using the the remove roles and features functionality of the OS.

  • Depends on what you're asking, it's not required to remove those roles and features. However, if you want to have a clean server you've got to remove those roles and features manually. The upgrade won't do that for you.

  • This depends on how you will utilize the distribution point, if you are not utilizing PXE or Multicast WDS is not required. The features required are detailed here https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682077.aspx#BKMK_SiteSystemRolePrereqs

  • Thanks for the update Jon.

I will use PXE and configure on DP. As per the provided TechNet blog we don't need

    BITS

    WSUS

    WebDAV

Here do we need to remove these windows roles/features manually (because we have configured these as part of SCCM 2007) ?

Servers we will only configure the SCCM 2012 DP with PXE.

  • Thanks for the update Jason.

Yes if required we will remove roles and features functionality of the OS.

If we keep this windows roles/features(BITS,WSUS,webdav) is there any impact on the SCCM 2012 DP/functionality?

    TIA.

  • Thanks for the update Jason.

    As per the blog:

With System Center 2012 Configuration Manager, the distribution point site system role does not require Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS). When BITS is configured on the distribution point computer, BITS on the distribution point computer is not used to facilitate the download of content by clients that use BITS

  • Right. Once again, ConfigMgr doesn't care if those components are installed or not.
