  • ASUS G75VW laptop running Win7 Pro x64 which is unable to upgrade IE9. I can download and install IE, but upon reboot during "Configuring Windows Updates" it gets up to 90% complete then returns "Failure configuring windows updates reverting changes"

  • Hi,

    To be added, you can also check IE installation log for test if it identify the error.

    IE9_main.log : C:\Windows

    In addition, if you installed any other security software, please try to disable them temporarily for test to install IE.

  • Hi,

    This Log file is IE 8->IE 9, not to IE 11. Is it the complete content you provided of log file?

    Please refer to the link below for more methods to troubleshoot IE 11 upgrade problem:

  • Yes this is the complete content of the IE9_main log file.

    There is also a IE11_main which is much larger. Looking through that log I see a recurrence of the following errors:

    "00:00.780: ERROR:   === FindResource (5501,"Spelling_en.msu") failed with 0x716"

    "00:00.796: ERROR:   === FindResource (5502,"Hyphenation_en.msu") failed with 0x716"

    "00:00.234: ERROR:   === FindResource (7006,"IE11-neutral.Extracted.cab") failed with 0x716"

    "01:34.833: INFO:    The neutral package failed to download.  Error: 0x800c0003 (2148270083)"

    "01:34.833: ERROR:   Online only setup was unable to download the neutral package."

    "01:41.151: WARNING: PauseAUThread: Failed to resume Automatic Updates: 0x8007043c"

  • Hi,

    According to these error message, this problem should be occures at IE 11 downloading necessary package during installation.

    Please confirm your IE upgrade failed time. If this problem occures after system reboot, please note the time of IE11_main log. This could help us find the exact reason of your problem.

    In my opinion, it should be lack new IE installation nessential package, then IE installtion failed.

  • The installation of IE11 seems to go fine, it is after I reboot when I see "Configuring Windows Updates, do not turn off your computer"...and then at approx 90% is when I get the error "Failure configuring windows updates reverting changes".

    I'm not sure what you mean by "please note the time of IE11_main log"?

  • Hi,

    Windows log would record the time when its events occures. While, Since this problem occures during IE configuration, you can try to boot into safe mode to install and confiure IE 11 for test.

    In addition, please provide CBS.log in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS. Generally speaking, this log also would record the process of Windows feature added, such as install IE.
