Can you install Internet Explorer 11 on Server 2008 Standard x64? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Was looking to see if this was possible. I see it for 2008 R2 but not server 2008 standard or x64. Just wondering if this can be done. We have a situation where it needs to be installed on some servers but they are older.

I have not tried to install IE 11 on server 2008 yet. I can try but didn't want to cause an issue if it wasn't going to work.

    thanks in advance.

  • Hi,

why not just run windows update on your server? You will need to login on the Administrators account.

btw: you should not use server versions of windows to casually surf the web, or to test your web applications, as it uses an enhanced security mode.

    Regards.

  • Hi prezidentj33,

Internet Explorer 11 is only supported for Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1), Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1), Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012, and Windows 10.

  • Thanks Rick_Li this is what I was hoping to not confirm. :-)    I thought maybe somehow we could still do it but, i'll go another route.  We just have an application that uses IE 11 now that runs on the server, we do not use it for browsing the web.

    Thanks much!
