  • General discussion

  • Hi Everyone,

I need to clarify if DPM 2010 support item level restore. Can I recover singel e-mail from the backup withotu restoring the entire e-mail box? Same goes for the AD backup as well.

    Thanks,
    Susantha

  • Hello,

No, DPM only supports restore methods supported by the Microsoft Exchange team.  Individual e-mail or mailbox restores are only supported using Microsoft Exchange tools.  Although 3rd party products offer this capaibility, it is not sanctioned, recommended or supported by Microsoft.    The same can be said for AD restores, you must restore AD using systemstate restore, then recovery AD objects using Microsoft tools.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hello,

Here is a link that you may find helpful: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff399587.aspx

"To recover a Microsoft Exchange 2007 mailbox, the recovered .edb and .log files need to be attached to the Recovery Storage Group in Exchange and you must use Exchange-supported tools, such as Exmerge.exe, to extract a .pst file."

The article then goes through the process of performing a mailbox recovery using the recovery storage group.
