Migration to Office 365 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello

We are currently working with Lync Server 2013 and have configured it in the Hybrid mode in order to migrate all our users to Office 365.

Last week, our environment has completely crashed and we lost all our servers. Moreover, the backup of the servers don´t seem to work well.

The Move-CSuser command is not working as the Lync database is not available at the moment. I am wondering if there is a solution in order to move all our users to Office 365 without having first to reinstall all the servers of the on-premise Lync.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

    Best regards

    Yann

  • Hi Yann,

You must repair your Lync on-premise servers in your environment if you need to migrate users to O365. As far as I know, there’s no way to move all users to O365 without having the worked Lync on-premise environment.

In addition, as users’ data is stored in the backend database, if the database is not available, you will not get the information for users.

  • Hello Evan

Thanks for your reply. Considering that the backup of the Lync database seems not to be working all data from the backend database will be lost.

Is there a solution for removing totally Lync from our environment and move SkypeforBusiness from Hybrid to Cloud only and then actívate there all the users?

    Thanks for your help

    Best regards

    Yann

  • Hi Yann,

Based on my experience, if your SFB on-premise is damaged, you could not do the migration. As you know, the reason why to do the migration is to move users' data to online.

In your environment, if possible, please repair the SFB on-premise environment. If you could not repair it, users' data will be lost, and when you assign SFB license to users in online, the SFB account is a new one.
