Re-ordering of the Resources Unique ID ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a user at my job who would like to re-order his resources in his team planner view.

Normally he would go to the resource sheet and would drag the resources around until he likes it, goes back to his teamplanner view and sees that his re-ordering is performed.

After a Save and re-opening of the file, the whole re-ordering is back to it's initial state.

Luckily found out for myself that this has to do with the Unique ID numbering of the resoures, but i still have not found out if it is possible to renumber those Unique ID in a way we would prefer.

Is there a WoW for this, because when in the Resource sheet -> View -> Sort -> Sort By -> Checkbox : permanently renumber resources does not do the trick if i try it on ID or Unique ID....:/

    Kind regards, Roderick van Erp

The number in the Unique ID field for each resource represents the order in which the user entered the names of the resources.  It is not possible to renumber the numbers in the Unique ID field, so this means that the Permanently Renumber Resources checkbox option will have no effect on the numbers in the Unique ID field.  It sounds like your user needs to come up with some other custom sorting arrangement.  For example, he might fill in the Group field in the Resource Sheet view with information that will allow him to apply the kind of custom sort he wants.  That would be my solution, anyway.  Hope this helps.

  • Hello Dale....

Thank you very much for the info, will inform my user that the sorting trick would be the way to go forward...:)

Edit : Just had a conversation with the user, we came up with the idea to first sort the users in the way he likes in the resource sheet, then add a number in front of their name and then sort it A-Z in the Team Planner view.

    Works perfectly !

    Kind regards, Roderick
