  • Hello,

If you want to upgrade from SQL Server 2008 Workgroup Edition to SQL Server 2008 R2, the setup program will only allow to perform an in-place upgrade to the following editions of SQL Server 2008 R2: SQL Server 2008 R2 Workgroup, SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard, SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise, and SQL Server 2008 R2 Datacenter.

It also seems you are trying to install a service pack of SQL Server 2008 R2 to upgrade from SQL Server 2008 and that is not possible. You need the full SQL Server 2008 R2 media.

    Hope this helps

    Hello,

Build 10.0 is SQL Server 2008 and build 10.50 is SQL Server 2008 R2, a different version, not jus a simple update. You have to purchase SQL Server 2008 R2 if you want to install it.

  • In order to upgrade, you must install SP3 or greater.   If you run the "Upgrade Advisor" it will tell you what you need to do to upgrade.
