Site System Placement with Data Center no Users RRS feed

  • Question

  • My client has asked me to set up a new Primary site at a Data Center (no users). The main office is relatively small - less that 1,000 clients so looking at the threads it doesn't seem worth setting up a secondary site - just a remote DP at the site office

Question is I'm told to avoid traffic because the link isn't great so should I still be placing all the site system roles at the Data Center e.g. MP and SUP. Any benefit in placing them at the local office ?. Also any point in creating a DP at the Data Center if no users ?

  • Traffic to the site server and/or SQL server is unavoidable regardless of where the roles are placed.

Without knowing the bandwidth it's hard to give a good recommendation though.

Without any managed clients in the same location as the site server, no there's no reason to place a DP there.

  • So there are 1000 clients to be managed by CM in total and they are at a remote location with a WAN link in between?

  • Between 500 -1,000. Not sure speed of the link between the sites
