Disabling Action Center's Firewall Notification through GPO RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a need to disable the action center from notifying the user about the firewall being disabled.  I have found a method to disable the action center (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee617161%28WS.10%29.aspx), but it only stopped the icon from being up for a second or so then it pops up.

There was a second and a preferred method of just disabling the firewall notification, but it required getting into the registry.  I attempted this method but it said this was an invalid item when I attempted to copy the exported registry file into the GPO. (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproui/thread/83dc3de6-70b7-450f-992c-60511e4a6c4f)

Is there any suggestions on how to perform this?

  • Hi,

Thanks for posting your question in the forum.

As far as I know, there is not a policy that will disable only the Firewall Notification. The closest options we could configure are two policies that are related but neither is really a complete solution and will block other types of notifications as well:

    1) Disable all balloon notifications:

User Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ Start Menu and Taskbar \ Turn off all balloon notifications

    2) Disable Action Center itself:

User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Start Menu and Taskbar \ Remove the Action Center icon

As you mentioned, if you want to disable the specific Action Center notification via registry keys, I suggest we’d better refer to the following articles. Hope this helps.
