Microsoft Teams or Skype for Business Server 2019? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

A colleague at work has been telling me Teams is the way forward and not to upgrade our on premise Skype 2015 to 2019.  Is this the case?  I see Skype for Business Server 2019 is out or almost out and see it can migrate to Teams easily, so I'm a little confused as to which direction we should plan to go?

Our Skype for Business Server 2015 is on premise (Datacentre) where our managed SIP trunk is for all our corporate numbers.

We all use O365 and have been playing with Teams, but is this to replace Skype Online and can we move our numbers from our SIP trunk to Teams?

    Thanks for a confused admin.

  • Yes you can certainly go to Teams if you feel all your required features are available in Team.. There is no doubt Teams is way forward compare to on-prem solution..

When it comes to Migration from Skype for Business to Teams.. this feature will be coming in Skype for Business 2015 as well probably in upcoming CU (CU8).

About Enterprise Voice in Teams - refer this article for multiple options.

Teams is going to replace Skype for Business online soon..

probably you may wait for few ore months and move your users directly yo teams instead of upgrading your On-Prem solution unless you have specific reason to keep you users in On-Prem..

  • Dear Neeranjan,

However, up to now I seems cannot see too much 3rd party vendor for Teams native IP hard Phone.

From this website, the Teams certified phones are still 0.

Do you have more information on this?
