DPM stop backup a specific agent RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

    We use DPM2010 (3.0.7706) on Server 2008 R2 SP1.

We are backuping a lot of servers and suddenly all protected items on a specific server stop working.

In fact, jobs runs, don't tranfers anything and never stop.

I verify agent connectivity, refresh it and shown as OK.
Agent's version are the same as DPM server (7706).

The problem occurs on Server 2008 R2 core edition, but other core servers are well backuped.

We have a lot of jobs running on this server as it deserv Hyper-V role.
So, we backup System State of physical server, Hyper-V VMs via 'child partition snapshot' and SQL database on virtual sql server.

I have free space on Core Server.

I give you a screenshot of DPM monitoring jobs status:

All others members of Protection Group are well backuped, so i don't think it is related to free space on replica volumes.

Only this server have this problem.

    Any help would be apprecied.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Moreover, if i cancel jobs and restart hem, they still run without doing anything...
    So according to DPMv3TShootGuide :
File synchronization or recovery point creation jobs continue to run, even when DPMbs" is not transferring data.
DPM may be perpetually attempting to cancel job.
Verify that DPM is not transferring data, and then cancel the job. If the job continues to run, restart the DPM server.
Sure, no data is being transferring, still 0 MB after 10 hours of running jobs.
So i cancelled jobs : "Cancelling the selected job will also cancel other jobs that are related to it" - "Do you want to cancel these jobs?"
Sure, i hit "Yes" so other pending jobs start to be "in progress", still with 0MB "Data transferred".
Again, i cancelled all jobs in pending states an
d reboot DPM server as mentionned in TBL doc.

So i got the following normals errors in "Monitoring tabs" - "Jobs" - "Failed jobs for yesterday and today" :
"The job wan cancelled. Thme user either cancelled the job or modified the associated protection group. (ID 908)"

But i still have this one, which, i mean is logged just before DPM Server restart :
"The protection agent on DPMSERVER was temporarily unable to respond because it was in an unexpected state. (ID 60 Details : Internal error code: 0x809909B0)"

After restarting the server, DPM still failed to backup all protected items on this specific server.

I really need help and/or advices.

  • Notice i can not restart this server due to production virtual server running on it.

So, if i want to reinstall DPM agent, how can i achieve this without rebooting the server ?

  • If you are talking about refreshing the installation of a Protected 2008 R2 server? That does not require rebooting the system.  However, you can not uninstall it from the management console without removing the protected data source.
