cannot "assign to me" a task assigned to a team RRS feed

  • Question

  • hello,

I assigned a task to a Team Resource (a resource in which the flag "Team Assignment Pool " is checked and the field "Team Name" has been qualified with a lookup table entry); my user account is a member of the same team (same entry in the field "Team Name" ).

In "My Task" I click "insert row" / "insert team task" and I can see the task assigned to the Team. When I click "Assign to me" the following error appears:

"One or more of the specified task could be not re-assigned. This can happen if the proposed resource to be assigned already has an assignment on the given task or the specified assignment is deleted or rejected."

My User is an Administrator, so I guess it has full privileges.

    Any suggestion?

    thank you

    leonardo

  • Hi Leonardo,

as the error message suggests, is it possible that the team task has been deleted or re-assigned to someone else. I would check the team task and see if somehting has changed.

Let me know if this resolves your issue

  • Hi Leornardo,

there is an additional possible reason for that message: each member of your team has to be a project team member to be able to self assign to a task.

  • Hi Barbara,

you are right: if I make each team resource member also a "project team" member then the system does not display the warnig /error again. But doing so "kills" the advantage of using a Team resource: if my project manager has to associate every physical team resource to his project, he must know who they are: so why he should use an abstract "Team Resource"? What happens if the Team participants changes frequently?

More, if the PM create a Project Team with all these guys, each Team Member can assign himself to a task with the standard "insert row/Add yourself to a task", even if they do not group in a Team Resource.

I think is overkilling to assign a task to a "team resource" just to have a task visible to a Team Member under menu "insert row" / "insert team task".

Maybe I am wrong in the approach or in the system configuration, but I don't see any value in using "team resource" this way.

If I am not wrong, I hope Microsoft will fix this in the next service pack.

  • Hi,

I completely agree with you. And I have pointed out this issue at least in two other threads. Moreover there is a second issue: If one team-member has already assigned himself to a task, I expect this task not to be displayed any longer in team task view. I cross my fingers since weeks for a change on that!

If you want to have a look at http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/projectserver2010general/thread/0890e9ab-e1ac-438b-b5dc-b22dd3162e2a and http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/projectserver2010general/thread/13b98eda-a6af-4e4a-a94e-ee4adddd0df5.

  • Hi,

    good news! Yesterday Brian wrote:

I did come across a bug we have in 2010 where you need to be added to the project as a resource before you can self assign, otherwise you get an error: "One or more of the specified tasks could not be re-assigned.  This can happen if the proposed resource to be assigned has an assignment on the given task or the specified assignment is deleted or rejected."  We are aiming to fix this in an up-coming CU or Service Pack. • thank you Barbara, I asked Brian in that thread (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/projserv2010setup/thread/8f1b5ec6-7dc9-4093-9f8d-9dda1752fc93) if they have a temptative date for the CU / SP release.
