Audio Issues RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have an HP Pavilion notebook with windows 7 ultimate(ORINGINALLY VISTA JUST UPGRADED BUT MY PROBLEM WAS THERE BEOFRE I DID THE UPGRADE......my sound keeps disappearing.
the problem started about a month ago out of the blue....it happens when i try and shut down and the msg says that there are programs still running(logoff sound)
After that happening whenever i would log back on it would say that there is no audio device installed and i have a red x under the volume control.
i used to be able to just log off for a few minutes and then when i rebooted it would come back but now that is not even working(also i would just like to add that even when it was working that any time i would play a video the sound would only last for a few seconds and then it would go silent).

I have tried such steps as
    trouble shooting (no help)
uninstalling driver and reinstalling(system keeps saying the download failed)
system restore(again keeps saying it failed)

the audio componant i am speaking of is conexant hd smart audio

i am sure that there is a simple solution but i am going crazy not being able to find it.
i would so appreciate someone helping me with this.

    thank you
