Server 2008 R2 Security Guide RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I am trying to find the latest (if it exists) version of the "Windows Server 2008 R2 Security Guide".

I found the version 1.0 (Beta) in the Compliance Manager (ver 1.1) installation.  I have now updated SCM to ver 2.0.20.0, and for the life of me cannot find the Security Guide.

    Q. Has this guide been updated/removed ?

Could someone help me to find the actual version please.

    Thanks,

    Raharney

The changes to the user interface are extensive, I think that's why you've overlooked the new location for the prose guides. Rather than attaching a copy to every baseline they are now attached to only one baseline called "Attachments \ Guides" for each product. So, what you need to do in SCM 2.0 is navigate the tree in the left-hand pane, expand "Microsoft Baselines" then expan "Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1" and then select "Attachments \ Guides." You should see a file called "Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Security Guide.docx" in the middle pane, if you select it you can then click "Save As" in the Actions pane on the right.

  • Hello Kurt,

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply.  I don't know how I didn't see that, maybe because it was nearly midnight :-)

I really must be a nerd, I actually enjoyed seeing that the guide has been updated to version 2.0

Now all I have to do is read it.

    Thanks once again,

    R.

  • Please, I beg you to also provide the documents on the Web. It is just inconvinient if you have to install a large software system to read a guide (even when it is related to the software).

    Gruss

  • Bernd;

What you are asking for will not work becuase the Word documents are only part of the security guidance for each product. Consider Windows Server 2008 R2. To fully understand and implement our hardening recommendations you need to read the prose guide, examine the settings in our baselines in SCM for each server role, customize the baselines in SCM, export your customized baselines as GPOs from SCM, and examine the Attack Surface Reference spreadsheet.

    Kurt
