Upstream WSUS showing less "needed updates" than downstream servers RRS feed

  • Question

  • We've got 3 Windows Server 2016 servers running WSUS.

    One upstream and 2 downstream.

The vast majority of our servers point to one of the downstream servers and this shows that >100 updates are needed.

While the upstream shows all the servers from both downstreams and correctly states how many updates each one needs, when we go to approve the updates on the upstream it only lists 26 as needed.

So while it seems to be correctly rolling up the computer names and status it doesn't seem to be rolling up what updates are actually needed.

All synchronisations say they complete successfully.

Am I misunderstanding how this should work or is something wrong ?

  • resolved this when I realised that the WSUS folder had completely filled the 300GB disk.

Server Clean up wizard didn't help so increased disk disk to allow the synchronisation to really work and not jsut say it had worked.

All "needed" updates totals now match
