Enable "Customize User Agent String" Breaks Office 365 and SharePoint. RRS feed

  • Question

  • If I Enable "Customize User Agent String" GPO it breaks Office 365 and SharePoint On-Line.  After the Policy is replicated to the domain, the domain users can no longer select single line items in OneDrive for Business or on SharePoint document libraries. I followed the settings listed in the following URL.

The things discussed in this site talk about exactly what we are trying to do in our School environment. Looking for guidance in this and Need to find a resolution ASAP.  Randy Shamp

  • Hi,

You did not mention your windows and IE version with your question.

Internet Explorer Maintenance - Customize User Agent String has been removed from the admx files for GPO since IE10. (for very good reasons).

You did not read the Update to the blog at the bottom of that page. Do not use GPO!

Hi All,  an update to this blog – if you have web applications that have dependencies on detecting IE versions via the user agent string, try configuring your custom agent string value via the following registry key.  This will maintain the IE version, and append your custom string as an additional value in the user agent string.

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\User Agent\Post Platform]

This not a Group Policy value, so Group Policy Preferences will be your friend in deploying this out.

A good reference on the use of this registry key can be found at the URL below:
