Windows 7 randomly restarting RRS feed

  • Question

  • I installed windows 7 on my HP Pavilion DV6000 2 weeks ago and i had no problems till about a week ago, it just started restarting by itself, i know it not blue screening, i've updated all my drivers, i've done all the updates for the beta, everything! its not a power issue, and it works fine in safe mode (as much as safe mode lets you). My friend who has this EXACT same laptop is having no problem what so ever. anyone have any ideas?

  • Have you disabled automatic restarts to ensure that it's not blue screening so quickly that you don't see it?

Have you checked for memory dump files to see if any are created?

Have you checked your Event Viewer for error messages around the time of the restart?

If the problem doesn't manifest itself in these ways, then it's likely to be a hardware issue.  The first guess would be overheating - so check to ensure that the fan is running and that the vents aren't clogged with dust (canned air is best for this).

  • i know its not bluesceen becuase like you said i turned off the auto restart, i think it is memory dump but i havent checked yet. Every time i try to access my Event Viewer it gives me an error message saying it can not be created (which really sucks. hardware shouldnt be and issue if it doesnt do this in safe mode, all the fans and everything are fine.

  • I have the same series computer and earlier this week it all of a sudden started doing the exact same thing.  It doesn't seem to be dependent upon any actions I take, as it just happens any ol time.  I'd love to hear an answer.
