Event Id 4015 in dns server from mac clients only RRS feed

  • Question

  • We get  Dns - Server- Service from mac clients only.  Evetn Id 4015

    Here is the error

The DNS server has encountered a critical error from the Active Directory. Check that the Active Directory is functioning properly. The extended error debug information (which may be empty) is "0000051B: AtrErr: DSID-030F22B5, #1:
    0: 0000051B: DSID-030F22B5, problem 1005 (CONSTRAINT_ATT_TYPE), data 0, Att 20119 (nTSecurityDescriptor)". The event data contains the error.

Any ideas why this may be happening?

  • Hi tully214, Event ID 4015 is a classic error with several different possible sources.  Many times people just leave it alone and Active Directory continues to operate normally.  If you are positive this message is being caused particularly by Mac clients, then the thread I pasted below exactly matches your problem statement.  You may be able to follow along with what the poster in that thread did working with Microsoft to resolve the problem.

In the above, the original poster stated this:  "We discovered that we had to delete the bad records from ADSI edit (the DNS console only sets them to tombstone) and register. There must have been some sort of corruption in DNS."

Besides the above, you can do some further reading about Event ID 4015 errors with Active Directory below, which is another post on this subject in the Microsoft Directory Services forum marked as an answer to a another questioner:
