  • Question

  • Dear all,

    I use windows 2012 R2 WSUS.

    When I click "Check for updates" on one of windows 2012 R2, I get the following error :

    WindowsUpdate_80072EFE OR WindowsUpdate_dt000"‎ (0)

    But I can telnet the WSUS PORT (8531).

    What happen?

    thanks

  • Hi Lee John,

    1. If you use WSUS server's name in URL, then unsure the clients could resolve the name to correct IP address;

    2. Since you mention port 8531, then do you configure SSL for WSUS server, if so, please ensure the client trust the certificate used by WSUS server IIS site;

    3. You may also WindowsUpdate.log in C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log for detailed error information.

    Best Regards,

    Anne

  • hi John,

    Back to basics...

    - is this issue happening also on all other servers as well?

    error 80072EFE means connectivity issue:

    ===========================

    # for hex 0x2efe / decimal 12030
      ERROR_INTERNET_CONNECTION_ABORTED                              inetmsg.h
      ERROR_WINHTTP_CONNECTION_ERROR                                 winhttp.h
      ERROR_INTERNET_CONNECTION_ABORTED                              wininet.h
    # 3 matches found for "80072efe"

    ===========================

    please do following :

    1) on affected server restart windows update service (and write down exact time in HH:MM)

    2) check for updates again from control panel

    3) when you get same error send us whole file C:\windows\windowsupdate.log and tell us exact time when you did the activity

    Thanks
