Updates constantly re-installing on a Windows 7 system

Question
-
Hi,
I've got a Windows 7 SP1 system which is managed by my SCCM 2012 SP1 server and the this Windows 7 SP1 system is constantly pulling down updates that have been deployed over the last several months and installing them and then indicating I need to restart and then when I restart the whole update process takes place again. I've put off dealing with this for a while because the person was not using the computer very much so I didn't worry about but now they are using the computer and I'd like to resolve this behavior.
From what I can see in the Software Center on the client system the updates either indicate that they installed successfully or indicate I need to restart.
Any ideas about how I can break this cycle?
Thanks in advance,
Nick

Sounds like it might be a good candidate for an OS refresh/reinstall.
But if that's not a possibility, you could maybe try investigating the CBS.log for info that could help pinpoint the issue. Also, you could try installing each pending update manually (download the installers from Microsoft) and restart after each one. It's probably just one update that's actually failing, but since it's failing after the batch install and reboot, it's causing the entire batch to revert changes.- Edited by KevinMJohnston Thursday, July 17, 2014 10:32 PM

Try running the System Update Readiness Tool to check for component based servicing corruption that might be causing software update installation failures:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
When it's finished running, check the log in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
There may be errors found that the tool is unable to automatically fix. In that case, see the instructions for fixing manually:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821#manual%20fix
You could also try checking for system file corruption with the sfc /scannow command.
Also CHKDSK for possible file system issues.

Hi,
I tried that and I still had the same problem. Seems like the updating process on this system is broken or corrupted.
Any other ideas?
Thanks

Yeah I'd like to rebuild the system but that may not be possible right now.
I'll take a look at the CBS.LOG file and see if it shows anything.
Thanks
