  • Hi Janakaravi,

Please try reset windows update components on the machine, check if it could help:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/971058

Also run sfc /scannow to check if there are corrupted or missing system files.

    Best Regards,

    Anne

  • Uninstall KB3212646 and try again. If you don't have that one installed look for the previous quality monthly rollup that you have.

January 2017 Security Monthly Quality Rollup (KB3212646):
    wusa.exe /kb:3212646 /uninstall /quiet /norestart
December 2016 Security Monthly Quality Rollup (KB3207752):
    wusa.exe /kb:3207752 /uninstall /quiet /norestart
November 2016 Security Monthly Quality Rollup (KB3197868):
    wusa.exe /kb:3197868 /uninstall /quiet /norestart

  • Weird. I had the same problem (0x8000ffff installing KB4012215) on multiple machines and uninstalling the the cumulative update that was superseded by KB4012215 solved the problem every single time.

  • Another option is to skip KB4012215  and go straight to KB4012218

  • Think I have an answer for this issue:

We are seeing failures for the March KB4012215 Roll up on many Servers.

Running Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 with Internet Explorer 10.

The only difference between March Rollups KB4012215 (Quality/All) and KB4012212 (Security only)

    Is an IE patch: MS17-006.

    https://technet.microsoft.com/library/security/MS17-006

The patch does not apply to Internet Explorer 10 on Server 2008 R2 SP1.

    We have Internet Explorer 10 on 2008 R2 SP1.

Our solution is to deny 4012215 downstream and allow 4012212.

  • Also having an issue installing KB4012215 on 3 Windows 2008 R2 servers -- installed on over 100 servers successfully but these 3 servers are giving me Error 80070490.

I have tried installing kb4012212 and kb4012218 and those fail as well.

I have run sfc /scannow and installed KB947821 and KB2574819 and nothing seems to work

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

  • I too faced this kind of issue with one of my Vitual W7 Image.

Query your system for the latest(last installed) rollup update and uninstall it.

Then proceed with new rollup update. It worked for me.

    Good Luck

  • Kumar, but when you install patch next month did it work for you, not for me. I was able to uninstall last sec update and install latest but then again next month same story .. we are exp this on a bunch of Win 7 systems

  • Dude, did you get any solution to this issue.
    Tuesday, October 3, 2017 3:29 AM
  • Not sure if you found any solution to this but seems like Installing KB3177467 has solved our problem, I was getting the same error when i was applying Latest monthly Rollups to some of Win 7 systems, if i uninstall the last monthly rollup then i was able to install latest but it was never ending, this had to be done each patch cycle. I was able to install Security Only IE Security patches individually but Monthly Rollup used to fail. After installing KB3177467, We have no issue installing Rollups now.

  • Hi All,

I too had the same problem but it seems that I had to manually install the patch. and never seems to be pushed by the Windows update  where the end-node is connected to WSUS. I have a few nodes around and all over the place. is there any criteria for the KB3177467 to be met before appearing via Windows update in the end-node.

    Thanks
