File opens in UAG with %20 in its name RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We've installed Forefront UAG a few weeks ago. When opening any document with spaces in the filename, say Accounting details.docx, the spaces are replaced by %20 making the filename to be Accouting%20details.docx. Everytime I have to remove the %20 before saving the file. Please let me know if anyone has found a solution to this problem ?

    Thank you,

    Mahesh

  • Hi Miles,

A fileshare (to store documents) was created on our server which can be accessed from UAG. Employees uploaded different types (Word, excel, Pdf etc) of documents to various folders of the fileshare using UAG.

Any file that is uploaded to UAG with spaces in its name, when opened, the spaces in the filename are replaced by %20. Instead of opening the file for editing, if the file is saved, then the filename doesn't change.

For example: when a document such as Change Management Study.xls is opened after signing in to UAG, the resultant file name is changed to Change%20Management%20Study[1].xls. After editing the document, when the file needs to be saved, we have to manually replace the %20 with spaces and save it.

What needs to be done so that the document opens with its original name in Excel (or) the application that the document relates to without %20 replacing spaces in the filename ? Is this a problem related to UAG set-up (or) the application that we are opening the files in, such as Excel, Word, Adobe etc ? Please let me know.

    Thank you,

    Mahesh

  • How are the files being "access from uag"?  Are you using DirectAccess or are you publishing something as a trunk?  Where do the files actually reside?  On a file share from a unc path?  In sharepoint?  Something else?

  • What Mahesh meant to say is our company is using the File Access application (ie Admin->File Access from the Forefront UAG Management console) to connect to shares on servers.  When you log on to the Trunk, you get a menu that includes the File Access application.  Once you open the application and click on the file you wish to edit, it downloads into your app (Word, Notepad etc...) with %20 for the spaces in the filename.  Since this feature has been around since the Whale days, we were wondering if there was a setting or fix to prevent the %20.

    Thanks,

    Dave
